Body Language Courses
If you are interested in learning more about effectively communicating with others, there are specialized body language courses you can take that include subjects like public speaking, business communication, and cross-cultural communication.
We all learn to speak by the time we are two or three years old, sometimes younger. But do we learn to communicate? Yes, human beings communicate with others from the day we are born.
Baby cries and mom and dad learn very early on what each different cry means. This is communication. Mom can tell when the baby is hungry, tired, wet, or just wants to cuddle.
Communication changes as we get older and learn to talk, walk, and socially interact with other people. Life teaches it’s own body language courses every day. We all need to be around other people. Some we like and some we do not like. Whatever the case we will all behave accordingly and show signs of pleasure and displeasure in pretty much the same ways.
When we need to protect ourselves we will cross our arms or legs in front of us and maybe even put our hands up near our face or neck to ward off an attack. Everyone does this and many other things to communicate how we are feeling and what we are thinking about every situation in our lives.
If you are interested in expanding your communication knowledge you can take classes to further educate yourself. You will become well versed in the subject of public speaking.
Public speaking classes will teach you how to be an effective orator and give you assignments like speech writing, and rating other student’s work. You will be required to write and give many types of speeches including something that would seem simple enough, a toast. If you have ever had to come up with a good toast is not as easy as it would seem, is it? Other types of speeches may require you to show a visual aid presentation as part of your speech.
Business communication classes will teach you not only a good resume and cover letter writing skills but how to effectively send messages and submit ideas in your workplace. You will also learn about email etiquette and learn how to resolve co-worker conflicts. This last one is good if you plan on becoming a supervisor of a group. You may be required to take some sociology and psychology courses along with your business communication classes so you learn what makes people tick.
Cross-cultural communication classes will teach you how to be patient and tolerant of the barriers that naturally come with communicating with others of a different culture. You will be able to learn how to lessen the chance that misunderstandings happen due to language barriers. English is a hard language to learn and understand if it is a second language for someone. They can have difficulties picking up on slang terms and other nuances of the language.
You will also study body language courses that help you understand the power of body language and all its nuances and subtleties. This includes things like eye contact, sitting and standing postures, especially those that connotes authority.
