Pregnancy Fitness
Pregnancy does not have to mean becoming unfit if you are reasonably active when you become pregnant there is no reason to expect that you cannot remain so. You will want to take some added precautions especially as your pregnancy progresses; here are a few tips for pregnancy fitness.
Doctors Visit
The very first thing you should do is consult your OB-GYN. You will want to discuss any type of fitness routines you are considering. Your doctor will likely want to perform a physical to determine what type of exercise will be best for you and the baby. As stated above if you were reasonably active before getting pregnant this should not pose any problems.
Exercise Types
Generally speaking and with doctor’s permission, you should be able to continue any fitness exercises you were doing pre-pregnancy. Of course, this also means that if you were a bit less than active this is not the proper time to begin marathon training! If you fall into this category, you may want to limit exercise to low impact choices such as walking or swimming.
Stretch
Exercise is great through all phases of your pregnancy but does not forget to stretch. Not only is stretching a good idea if you are going to be exercising it is also great preparation for the birth of your baby. By the time, you are in your third trimester this should actually be the focus of your exercise routines. Stretching keeps your body supple and increases blood flow to your muscles; it is also a fantastic way to relax!
Limits
Everyone has their limits for physical activity and you need to know yours. For some people, regular exercise is a way of life and thus can continue this throughout their pregnancy, in other cases, you will want to just stay healthy. Walking is the best exercise on the planet and if you have been out of the exercise circuit for a while, it is your best bet. No stress on you or the baby when you take a leisurely stroll!
Conclusion
Exercise during pregnancy is great, provided you keep your doctor in the loop and do not overdo it. Moving your body keeps the blood flowing to your extremities and makes for a healthier body. It is also one of the best stress relievers you can find, which is good news when you are expecting. Pregnancy fitness is not only possible it is recommended by health care professionals.
