The women’s fitness industry has exploded over the last 30 years. Many women want to get the benefits of a great workout, and they want to shape their bodies. However, many women are uncomfortable going to a traditional gym. There are several reasons why some women would rather get their teeth pulled than go to a traditional gym. For one thing, fitness centers are dominated by men. This is not a bad thing, but having men around can make many women feel self-conscious. They feel as if they are being judged by the men. They do not have to deal with men checking them out when they work out. They do not want to feel inferior if they are out of shape. They worry that men might look down their noses at them, or ridicule them. Some women simply do not want men seeing them sweaty.
The fitness industry understood this, and thus created women’s fitness centers. At women’s fitness centers, total comfort and enjoyment is center stage. Women’s fitness centers tend to be on a smaller scale than larger traditional fitness centers. This is because of the nature of women. Women can feel intimidated by a huge gym chock full of machines. A smaller room feels more like home, and therefore, the workout experience feels more comfortable. Women crave intimacy. When they are in a closed space working out with other women just like them, it puts them at ease.
Women, for the most part, do not have the issue of getting judged or hit on when they attend a women’s fitness center. Everyone is there for the same reason, and it is not to get hit on. Women of all ages and stages of life will attend. Therefore, no one has to worry about judgment. No one is expected to look like a supermodel. No one has to worry about being judged if they get sweaty or if their makeup smears. No one has to worry about being off-putting to the opposite sex, and being seen as undesirable.
Women’s fitness centers usually have child care centers, because a lot of participants are moms, especially new mothers. The childcare centers are staffed with certified childcare leaders. These childcare centers allow mom to have her fitness time in peace while allowing her kids to have a safe place to play, and be entertained. Some of the more upscale women’s fitness centers have planned activities for the children, based on their age. This way, the kids can get their fitness fun taken care of while mom has her workout.
