Stop Doing It All
One sure way to build stress and lose your energy is to try to do it all. You’re not a superhero. You can’t do everything, and you can’t be everything to everyone. Take off the cape and stop trying to fix everything, to be everything, and to do everything for everyone.
It can be tempting to try to juggle all that you do. Maybe you even think that it’s up to you to handle more than you can really bear. You could be a perfectionist, or you just have a personality that makes it difficult for you to admit that you can’t do it all.
If you don’t stop this mindset, it’s going to lead to overwhelm. Plus, you’ll develop health issues and relationship problems. There will be friction and resentment among your loved ones.
You’ll be tired and frustrated. Despite what you might want to do or think you can do, in reality, you can’t carry the world – and you’ll notice that trying to makes you miserable. You can’t be your best self at anything because you’re always so bogged down or overwhelmed with everything on your plate.
You have to stop the energy drain. Stop multitasking to do jobs that other people should do. Learn to delegate. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, especially at home among your family members.
Doing this gives them the chance to pitch in. Plus, it keeps others from relying on you too much. They need to have responsibilities in order to be independent and learn how to do things on their own.
Look for the tasks that are most draining to you or that stress you out and delegate those. If doing laundry is hard for you, then let your teens or spouse handle that while you focus on a task that doesn’t give you the same energy drain.
Sometimes, it’s about simply looking for a way to remove tasks. You may not really need to do everything that’s on your list. Or, you may not need to do it in such a time-consuming way.
When you’re at work, don’t try to be the person that others know they can turn to if they need to push off some of their own responsibilities. It might be that you’re the type of person who knows how to get stuff done.
You can fix issues when they crop up. While that’s a good thing, it can make you an easy target for people who are always looking for someone else to either share their workload or do it entirely.
You can stop doing it all by learning how to say no. Don’t worry about what others might think if you do this. The other person’s work is not your responsibility and you’re not helping them in the long run.
Keep your focus on doing what you need to do in order to live a fulfilled life that’s as stress-free as possible. Let everything else go.
